Common questions about highway deployments

What is VIDES?

VIDES stands for Video Incident Detection and Enforcement System. It combines speed detection (VSDS), incident detection (VIDS), traffic counting (ATCC), and number plate recognition (ANPR) into a single gantry-mounted platform. It is mandated by NHAI's 2023 circular for deployment on national highways.

What speed range is certified?

The system is NATRAX certified for radar-based speed detection up to 230 kmph and vision-based detection up to 180 kmph. It supports both spot speed and section-based speed enforcement.

Does it work at night?

Yes. The Global Shutter camera uses built-in IR (120m range) and Pulse IR technology to capture clear evidence in complete darkness. Seatbelt violations for both driver and co-driver are detected at night with 96% accuracy.

Can it work without internet connectivity?

Yes. All AI processing happens on the edge device at the gantry. Detections, evidence, and logs are stored locally and synced to the central server when connectivity is available.

How does it comply with NHAI 2023?

The system meets every functional and technical requirement of the NHAI 2023 VIDES circular, including co-located VSDS, VIDS, ATCC, and ANPR on a single gantry, 10 km interval deployment, and integration with the ATMS command centre.

What vehicle types does ATCC classify?

ATCC classifies 18+ vehicle types including 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, cars, LCVs, buses, trucks (2-axle through 6+ axle), tractors, heavy construction machinery, and goods autos.

How does challan generation work?

Violations detected by the camera are validated by enforcement officers through the EdgeTrack dashboard. Approved violations are pushed to NIC for automated e-challan generation and delivery to the vehicle owner.
